To celebrate 60 years of IFIP, WG 8.3 on Decision Support in collaboration with Cork University Business School at University College Cork, are pleased to invite you to our virtual seminar entitled “Decision Making for a Sustainable Global Society”.

The objective of this session is to explore individual, organisational, governmental, and societal decision making and how the decisions made by each of these stakeholders’ affect global sustainability. With the 17 sustainable development goals (SDGs) at the heart of the conversation, our aim is to reflect on decision making, decision support and decision support systems (DSS) over the last 60 years and consider new opportunities to innovate and disrupt using emerging technologies such as Big Data and analytics can help us to enable and achieve a more resilient, sustainable society.

Xavier Dubuisson, CEO RetroKit, XD Sustainable Energy Consulting Ltd.

Xavier has over 25 years’ experience as an engineer in the field of sustainable energy in Ireland and internationally. Besides running a successful consultancy in this space, Xavier is also founder and CEO of RetroKit (https://www.retrokit.eu/), a start-up specialised in developing digital solutions to empower decision-makers and doers in upscaling the decarbonisation of the housing sector.  

Sara Goulartt, Head of Climate & Environment at EDP, Energias de Portugal S.A.

Sara has been working on the sustainability landscape for more than 20 years. In EDP, Sara has been responsible for sustainability strategies and corporate reporting, aligned with the most recognized global standards and ESG requirements. Currently, at corporate level, climate change, circular economy, and biodiversity programs to improve decision-making processes and accelerate sustainability are Sara’s main areas of responsibility. Throughout her professional career, building partnerships and engaging with local communities, NGOs and academia has been the most rewarding lines of work for Sara as those have continuously demonstrated the power of working collaboratively and collectively towards a common sustainability agenda. Sara started her professional life as an environmental engineer, with an MSc in Economics, Environmental and Energy Policy.     

Professor Patrick Humphreys, Emeritus Professor of Social Psychology, LSE.

    Patrick is an Emeritus Professor of Social Psychology at the London School of Economics. He is a consultant advisor at World reserve Trust (www.worldreservetrust.com) and Development Director at Real-Time (real-time.org.uk). He led the LSE RTD team on the EU FP7 CADIC project (“Cross-enterprise assessment and development of Intellectual Capital” (www.cadic-europe.org)). Previously he directed the project “Creative Partnerships: Pathways to Value” for the Arts Council England and led the RTD team for the European Union Framework 6 Project “ InCaS: Intellectual Capital Statement, Europe”. Patrick Humphreys has been involved in initiatives on organisational transformation, entrepreneurial innovation clustering and community development and small business sector development in many countries. He is a Fellow of the Royal Society for Arts, Industry and Commerce. He is a past chair of IFIP’s Working Group 8.3 and holds the International Federation for Information Processing’s Silver Core Award.  

Dr. Karen Neville, Senior Lecturer, BIS, University College Cork.

Karen is a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Business Information Systems (BIS), Cork University Business School (CUBS), at University College Cork (UCC), Ireland. She is the founder and Managing Director of UCC’s Centre for Resilience and Business Continuity (CRBC) and has generated over €14 million in income for UCC.  Karen is a leading expert in Decision Support Systems (DSS) and approaches for Emergency Management (EM) and Business Continuity (BCP). She has formed and lead international consortiums and is active in Horizon Europe Research, developing Technology Readiness Level (TRL) 8 and 9 solutions which have changed regional and national policies. Karen holds a PhD in Information Systems Security and is a Teaching and Learning Fellow at UCC.
